About Yoga classes I offer

In my eyes, the essence of Yoga is to cultivate strength, not only strength in the body but also strength in the mind and heart. Yoga is a path to inner strength, inner transformation towards greater empowerment. We are all eligible to participate in the practice of yoga, and we will all benefit from that practice.

My teaching is very much influence by my own practice and various Yoga teacher trainings I participated in. I offer Ashtanga Yoga as a Yang style of dynamic and strength. Slow Flow and Healing Movements are classes I enjoy giving a bit more time for longer holds in poses and specific therapeutic sequences. With Yin & Restore classes I create an environment for everyone to relax, rejuvenate and rest. Read more about each style below and please let me know if you have any questions.

Slow Flow

A fusion of Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga, but with slower, deeper poses.

Slow Flow Yoga is an intentionally slower-paced class, aimed at helping both new students and those who want to deepen their understanding of yoga. Slow Flows give you plenty of time and space to find your breath as you warm up the body in a gentle way. Slow Flow classes often start with a short meditation (seated or another pose) which provides the space needed to gather up all your attention and to be present with how you're feeling and what you're thinking in the present moment. Slow Flow Yoga is resulting overall into a more focused practice, deeper stretches, and a relaxed mindset in class.

Yin & Restore Yoga

A restorative and meditative practice focusing on deeper tissues of our body.

Yin is a restorative, meditative practice consisting of long held stretches focusing on the deeper tissues of our body; encouraging more flexibility and freedom of movement while releasing deep tension of the body and softening the nervous system. Yin Yoga asks us to enter each pose while leaning into three principles: To take yourself to an appropriate edge, to find stillness there, and to remain in stillness for a period of time. Yin is a practice of introspection, interoception, and reception of the poses, not external observation or performance. Because of this, deep listening to yourself in order to find your version of the pose, one that fits your body, is the main practice itself.
Restorative Yoga supports every aspect of the body in an attempt to relieve tension. In Restorative Yoga, props are essential to fill in the negative space under the body so that it may rest in alignment. While we also practice surrender in Restorative Yoga, it is in part a surrender to the props that are holding and supporting us. This encourages a complete letting go of effort as well as any thoughts and concept of time.

Healing Movements Yoga

A practice that links traditional Yoga with innovative Yoga therapy and living Philosophy.

The essence of Yoga is to come in an holistic harmony with yourself. Therefore yoga IS therapy. But with some specific techniques you can enhance the healing powers even more. This class combines theory and practice - valuable tips for your alignment, therapeutic sequences and meditative aspects combined to create a holistic picture and yoga practice.

Ashtanga

A set sequence of yoga poses that develops strength and flexibility and improves your overall well-being.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga (as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois) is a dynamic system which gracefully synchronises breathing and movement. Its objective is to promote a strong flexible body and focused mind. Ashtanga Yoga is the yoga of ashta (eight) anga (limbs), and is the practice of yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana, and smadhi. This style is a dynamic vinyasa flow that connects the movements of the body with the breath. Ashtanga yoga utilizes a three-fold approach called Tristhana. Tristhana consists of correct breathing (Ujjayi breathing), yoga postures/asanas (including correct use of the bandhas), and the precise gazing (drishti).

Modifications are always offered to allow a well-balanced individual practice.

Ashtanga Mysore style

A self-paced, individualized Ashtanga Yoga practice in a group setting

Mysore Style is the traditional way of teaching the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Mysore classes are not talked through. In Mysore class, everyone works within his or her own breathing rhythm and capabilities; growing slowly with the practice to ensure a life-long sustainable practice.
The student works alongside other students on their own program of set poses supervised and kept safe by their teacher. This is the traditional way yoga has been taught for thousands of years and is recommended for students to experience their own developing practice. The teacher gives personal advice that isn’t always possible in a group led class. Each person comes and starts and finishes their practice at their own time (within the timespan outline on the schedule). You don’t have to be an experienced practitioner to enjoy these classes, just a desire to take control of your own yoga practice.
